T&C Pharmacists Attend LDN Conference in Portland, Oregon
The pharmacists at Town and Country Compounding Pharmacy recently attended the Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Conference held in Portland, Oregon sponsored by the LDN Research Trust.
Notable attendees were LDN Research Trust Board Members Linda Elsegood and David Yeazel MS, MPH, and many other distinguished researchers who came to present their latest findings on various topics of interest.
While Low Dose Naltrexone is more widely known as an opioid alternative for pain management, researchers have found more ways to utilize it. Here are several ways LDN may be used in the treatment of various symptoms and diseases:
Immune Response – We learned that LDN acts as an immune modulator that has direct and indirect activity on cancer.
It plays a fundamental role in the immune response by providing an initial ‘danger’ signal that triggers downstream immune activity.
It also helps to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy (such as pain and inflammation) as well as increases the efficacy of some chemo regimens.
Borrelia Burgdorferi, Fibromyalgia, and others – Other experts presented on using LDN for treating tick-borne diseases such as Borrelia burgdorferi. Fibromyalgia, Parkinsonism, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer and autoimmune disorders like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Autoimmune Hepatitis or Hashimoto´s have also been treated successfully with LDN.
At Town & Country Compounding we do the best to work with the patient and the practitioner to offer other options for the patients.

Inflammatory Brain Disorders – LDN is also useful as a psychiatric medication to reduce inflammation-related psychiatric symptoms, depression, and pain. A case was presented on a patient that had a 25-year history of Major Depressive Disorder and had resolution of symptoms with LDN in a few months. LDN also plays a role in helping patients with inflammatory brain disorders such as autism and traumatic brain injury possibly by its role as a powerful microglial modifier which may help prevent neurodegeneration and immune dysfunction.
Other Uses – LDN has also helped many patients with endometriosis pain and fibromyalgia. Reduction of inflammation by LDN has restored fertility in some female patients who had not been previously able to conceive.
LDN is also a critical therapy for patients with Graves’ disease along with the removal of autoimmune triggers/environmental stressors, intense diet, nutritional, and lifestyle modifications, herbal therapies, and treatment of underlying causes (e.g. infections).
