Town & Country Compounding has new transforming wound care formulas!
When a patient’s wound care regimen isn’t working as quickly or as well as it should, their quality-of-life declines. Families get frustrated. Practitioners get frustrated. A high-quality compounding pharmacy can be invaluable at this time. Town & Country Compounding has unique wound care formulations for prescribers and their challenging cases.
What are pressure ulcers?
Pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores or pressure sores, can develop in individuals who are immobile or have difficulty moving, particularly if they spend extended periods in one position. Patients in assisted living, memory care or other long-term care facilities are often faced with this problem. Bedridden patients and patients in wheelchairs are at a higher risk than others for developing pressure ulcers. Also, those with limited mobility due to illness, surgery or pain are often more susceptible.
Why healing wounds is challenging
Reduced and limited mobility hinders blood circulation, making it more difficult for wounds to heal. Older individuals may experience a decline in skin elasticity, collagen production, and immune function, making them more susceptible to pressure ulcers and also for taking longer to heal. Senior patients with mobility challenges often have multiple comorbidities, making the overall management of their health more complex. Coexisting medical conditions such as diabetes, vascular disease, compromised blood flow and weakened immune systems can complicate wound care and slow down the healing process.

Unique Compounded Formulations for Challenging Wound Cases
We start our compounding process with a transforming wound care base that creates a unique tissue-protective, microbiome-supportive film. EctoSeal P2G™ is a revolutionary powder-to-hydrogel topical wound base that is natural and has ingredients that protect the tissue, optimize moisture levels, and enhance the microbiome.
Once it comes in contact with moisture, it transforms from a powder to a hydrogel, enabling easy application to any type of wound. EctoSeal’s protective film causes exceptional adherence to the wound, optimizing moisture and improving contact time of the drug to the wound. It has the ability to quickly transform from the protective film back to a hydrogel when remoistened, making wound cleaning easier and less painful for patients. EctoSeal was developed using natural sources and it leaves no chemical residue.
The topical versatility of EctoSeal allows for use with a wide variety of active pharmaceutical ingredients (drugs), delivering personalized medicine tailored to a patient’s specific condition and need.

Once EctoSeal base is compounded with the active pharmaceutical ingredients (drugs), it can be dispensed as:
- A powder-Rx is to be directly sprinkled into the wound
- If a wound is wet (has exudate), the medicated wound powder will absorb the moisture and form a protective shield as it dries.
- If a wound is dry, the medicated powder is sprinkled onto the wound and may be moistened with purified water, sterile water. or saline to form a protective shield.
- A gel-Rx is a water-based gel (Hydrogel)
- EctoSeal powder is mixed with various active drugs and formulated into a water-based gel. This would not be the best choice if the wound was already “weepy”; the powder would be better. One disadvantage of dispensing as a gel vs the powder is the shorter dating “beyond use dating” on some of the drugs used in wound care formulations.
