Prescriber FAQs

Frequently asked questions to support prescribers ordering and managing patient care.

How long does it take my patients to receive their compounded prescription?

Compounded prescriptions are made specifically for each patient and are scheduled once payment is received. Most prescriptions are processed within 24–48 hours and are ready for pickup or shipping within that time, provided we receive both the prescription and payment Monday through Thursday. Please note we are closed on weekends and do not ship on Saturdays or Sundays. Once payment is received, we’ll provide an estimated timeframe for your patient’s prescription.

Do you take insurance?

We do not bill insurance directly for compounded medications. Over time, we’ve found that most insurance plans do not cover compounded prescriptions—even when submitted—resulting in frequent denials. In the rare cases when coverage was approved, the required copay often exceeded our standard cash price, which we feel is unfair to patients.

While some compounding pharmacies may appear to accept insurance, patients are often informed later that the prescription was rejected and end up paying the cash price regardless.

To support our patients, we’re happy to provide Universal Claim Forms that can be submitted to insurance companies for possible reimbursement.

My patient called complaining that their prescription is not ready. What should I do?

We understand how important it is for your patients to receive their medications promptly. For general turnaround times, please refer to the section above: “How long does it take for my patients to receive their compounded prescription?”

Here’s a brief overview of our process and common reasons for delays:

  • Patient Contact & Payment: After we receive a prescription, we must first reach the patient to verify information and collect payment. We cannot begin compounding until this step is completed.
  • Incorrect or Missing Contact Information: One of the most common delays occurs when we cannot reach the patient due to outdated or incorrect contact details. Multiple call and text attempts are made before we can proceed.
  • Prescription Clarification: If any details are unclear, our pharmacists may need to contact your office for clarification. Compounding is placed on hold until we receive a response.

To help avoid delays, please ensure that patient contact information is current and that your team is available for timely follow-up if clarification is needed. We appreciate your partnership in helping ensure a smooth process for your patients.

Do you compound sterile medications? What are your credentials?

Yes, Town & Country Compounding compounds sterile medications. We maintain full compliance with USP <800>, <797>, and <795> standards.

Our facility has been inspected by both the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), and we are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for sterile compounding, non-sterile compounding, nursing, and home infusion.

As part of our ongoing commitment to safety and quality:

  • Our cleanrooms are certified twice annually by an independent company, as required by NJ law and our accreditation standards.
  • In addition, we exceed minimum standards by hiring an independent CETA-certified professional to perform extra surface and active air sampling.
  • We also conduct fingertip testing of compounding personnel more frequently than required by USP <797>.

These extra steps reflect our dedication to maintaining the highest standards in sterile compounding.

Can you send compounds to our office or facility?

Yes, we can ship compounded medications directly to your office or facility—as long as they are labeled for individual patients, in accordance with state and federal regulations.
