FAQs

What is a Myers' Cocktail IV (Myers' Cocktail Infusion)?

A Myers’ Cocktail IV is a customized infusion given to the patient in an office setting. It is a type of intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy that contains a combination of vitamin C, B vitamins, magnesium, and calcium. The nutrients in the IV cocktail can help support overall wellness, immune function, mood, energy, and athletic recovery and help reduce overall inflammation in the body.

Practitioners that prescribe Myers’ Cocktails for their patients often customize the IV bag with various antioxidants in addition to vitamin “boosters,” depending on the patient’s symptoms or nutrient deficiencies. Glutathione is commonly given separately immediately after the infusion.’

Who may benefit from a Myers' Cocktail IV Infusion?

Those who need to rejuvenate, rehydrate, recover, or replenish vitamins and nutrients for various reasons.

  • Recent viral illness or chronic disease
  • Immune system boost
  • Over-scheduled, work or life burnout
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraines
  • Low energy, general fatigue
  • Athlete recovery after an event, or boost before an event
  • Mood disorders; anxiety and or depression

Why is an infusion necessary? (vs. oral supplementation)

IVs are absorbed much better than oral supplements.

With an IV infusion, vitamins are absorbed more efficiently and completely because they are infused directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the stomach. The immediate high concentrations delivered throughout the body can result in immediate and significant absorption, often resulting in quicker results for the patient.

When vitamins are taken orally, the body can only absorb so much at once. If the same high doses of vitamins in a Myers’ Cocktail infusion were taken orally, they would mostly be eliminated (not absorbed) and very irritating to the stomach.

Vitamin infusions are necessary only 1–4 times per month. The nutrients given directly to the bloodstream last longer than oral supplements, which must be taken daily.

What roles do the various vitamins in Myers' Cocktail infusions have?

Some vitamins and minerals have anti-inflammatory properties that may help to reduce inflammation throughout the body.

B vitamins play a key role in energy production and help to reduce fatigue and improve overall energy levels. Along with Vitamin C, they support the adrenal glands and help the body deal with stress.

Certain nutrients, such as magnesium and B vitamins, are involved in the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which can help to regulate mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Vitamins such as vitamin C and minerals like magnesium and zinc can help strengthen the immune system and improve the body’s ability to fight viral and bacterial infections.
