A Discussion on Our Seminar on Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) in Autoimmune Conditions & Chronic Pain

This article highlights a recent seminar hosted by Town & Country Compounding in Ramsey, NJ (and via Zoom), where experts in low-dose naltrexone (LDN) discussed its use in autoimmune conditions and chronic pain. It covers why LDN must be compounded, dose titration techniques to find the ideal individualized dose, and how collaborations between prescribers and compounding pharmacists can improve patient outcomes with tailored LDN therapy.

At Town & Country Compounding, we do much more than simply fill prescriptions — we collaborate with healthcare practitioners to enhance the quality of therapy.

Finding the Right Fit to Address Your Pain

Chronic inflammatory diseases are complex to manage and affect a large number of patients. Since the 1990s, opioid prescriptions have grown in prevalence for chronic inflammatory and neuropathic conditions. However, most opioids are considered less effective — or have unproven efficacy — in chronic conditions such as multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Crohn's disease, and others.

Due to the difficulty of addressing chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, and immune system dysfunction, patients often seek better options to obtain relief from symptoms. Town & Country Compounding has what you need for pain management.

Why Is LDN Only Available as a Compounded Medication?

Naltrexone is commercially available only in a 50 mg tablet. However, Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) therapy is typically prescribed at 0.5 to 4.5 mg per day, adjusted based on the patient's response. Our compounding pharmacy uses naltrexone powder to formulate individualized dosing based on each prescription order.

What Is Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)?

Naltrexone belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid antagonists. It works by blocking opiate drugs from binding to opioid receptors, which can result in increased endorphin and enkephalin release. This leads to reduced signaling of inflammatory substances, decreased nerve cell inflammation, and modulation of autoimmune mediators.

LDN has been explored for a wide range of conditions, including:

Chronic Pain Hashimoto's Parkinson's Disease Arthritis Graves' Disease Alzheimer's Ulcerative Colitis Crohn's Disease Psoriasis Eczema Neuroinflammation Sjogren's Syndrome Multiple Sclerosis Irritable Bowel Celiac Disease Autism Fibromyalgia Lupus Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Cancer HIV/AIDS Lyme Disease Weight Loss

LDN Titration Kit Using Oral Capsules

Doses for LDN are highly individualized — one dose does not fit all. We offer titration kits so patients can gradually work their way to their ideal dose, helping prevent "overshooting" by starting too high.

Our unique titration kits support the success of therapy by helping patients identify the exact dose that brings improvement to their condition.

Patients Interested in Possibly Taking LDN

Not sure where to start? A pharmacist mini-consult may be the right first step. Our consultations are designed to help you know what questions to ask your doctor, gather literature to bring to your appointment, and understand your condition and how LDN may help.
