Why is a compounding pharmacy necessary for topical losartan?

Losartan is only commercially available in tablet form, there is not an ophthalmic form available. Commercial tablets may not be used to compound a sterile product. Only experienced, high quality compounding pharmacies should compound losartan topical for the eye.

“Oral losartan does not penetrate the cornea and, therefore, has no effect on the fibrosis response to injury or corneal wound healing .”

Rigorous protocols lead to excellent patient outcomes.
