Allergy Treatment Recommendations
Expert Insight & Resources
Allergy and asthma sufferers know that allergy season can be tough. There is no answer to which allergy medication works best since allergies affect everyone differently. Allergy season is here now until the fall, and you can add a nutritional supplement to your regimen before the allergens that affect you most are at their peak.
Longer Allergy Seasons
Recent climate changes have caused allergy season to last longer (~20 days longer) and it comes with more pollen (~21% more) than it did in 1990, according to a recent study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Anthropogenic climate change is worsening North American pollen seasons.
What Are Seasonal Allergies?
Seasonal allergies often refer to allergies caused by pollen from trees, grass, and weeds.
When Does Allergy Season 2021 Start?
Technically, it’s allergy season year-round because of dust mites, mold, and pet dander, according to Purvi Parikh, MD, in a recent article on Women’s Health.
However, seasonal allergens include tree pollen, which becomes more widespread in the spring (late March to April), grass pollen in late spring (around May), weed pollen in the summer (July to August), and ragweed pollen from summer to fall (late August to the first frost).
Airborne pollen can increase someone’s susceptibility to other infections, regardless if they are typically allergy sufferers or not. Pollen can weaken the immune response against certain seasonal respiratory illnesses by causing the interferon antiviral response to be reduced.
