This means that, despite previous concerns about the FDA potentially halting the compounding of tirzepatide as of February 18, we can continue providing this important medication to those who rely on it.
This latest decision follows a recent court hearing regarding the case OFA v. FDA, in which the FDA confirmed it would not take immediate action against compounders making tirzepatide copies while the case is still in litigation.
Although tirzepatide has been removed from the shortage list, the FDA has made it clear that they will not enforce restrictions on compounding this drug at this time—provided that it meets their safety and quality standards.
While this is positive news for now, it is important to note that this enforcement discretion is temporary.
